What do you do when you want to hike the entire 2100+ miles of the
Appalachian Trail but can’t leave behind the responsibilities of job and family?
Section hike, of course! This site details the ongoing journey of Tim (Smoking
Sox) and Jeff (Stalking Tortoise) as we traverse the trail, mile by mile,
between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Katahdin in Maine’s Baxter State Park.
Right now, we’re lucky to get a few long weekends of hiking per year due to work
schedules and family activities. As a result, this journey will take us many
more years to complete. Our good friend Dave (Receding Hare) joined us for our
first section before disappearing to the deserts of Arizona. We figure that it’s
just a matter of time before he shows up again. Friends Mike (Sheep's Head) &
Shannon have also joined in the fun when they were free. So sit back and enjoy
as we describe the exhilaration and challenge of each mile of the trail.
